Hello World. I’m back from maternity la la land, but just for a minute.
Something happened the other day (OK maybe it was about a month ago) that made me feel like I had to share it with the internet.
It involved a big hunk of tofu. I had shoved this hunk into the freezer hoping that maybe it wouldn’t be wasted. I had never frozen tofu and figured it was worth a shot. It was either that or the trash and I really dislike throwing perfectly good food into the landfill. Continue reading
I have never been to a school without a cafeteria. Turns out my son’s school actually doesn’t have one.
This was very strange to me in the beginning, but it’s starting to make more sense.
How cute is this?
It seems that almost half of the students in his school bring their lunches from home; quite a difference than in Texas where the majority of the kids bought their lunches from the cafeteria.
So what do the other kids do? Well we have a fancy program called Taste Nutrition. Continue reading
I think one of my fondest memories from my childhood is the afternoon snack. Strange you think?
Well, this was a ritual that was done almost religiously for the kids every day around 5 PM and it was an essential part of my day. Lunch was long gone, dinner was simmering away, and the kids were in need of nourishment.
My schedule varies most days but this week has been a little hectic. Two weeks before school starts, summer camp has ended, and swimming classes this week, out of town next week, back to school shopping somewhere in between, and constant hunger lead to lots of crazy speedy meals.
Today was no different. When we got back from Swim class it was after noon and I was starving as usual. I needed lunch, Fast!
I had remembered making something involving spaghetti and plain old tomato sauce a while back which had turned out to satisfy cravings and hunger perfectly. So I went toward recreating it and the end result was pretty tasty to tell you the truth.
I literally had this meal on the table (salad and fruit accompaniments included) within 15 minutes.
Here’s what I did…
- 1/2 box of plain spaghetti
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 1 small can of tomato sauce (I want to say 8 oz.)
- 2 garlic cloves, chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 2 teaspoons sugar
What to do:
- Bring a few cups of water to boil, generously season with salt, throw in spaghetti and cook until al dente.
- Drain pasta and keep in colander while you make the sauce. In the same pot, heat oil, add garlic, oregano, and pepper. Cook for a minute or until fragrant. Add tomato sauce (careful of splatter, learned that the hard way) and sugar. Stir for a minute or so until simmering. Add drained pasta and toss.
- Serve and devour.
Honestly, I didn’t add anything else, not even salt and pepper. It was great the way it was.
My belly is giant and satisfied and yours will be too. I promise.
OK Mommies out there, I’m new to this cloth diaper thing and need advice. Which cloth diaper is the best ? Where can I find affordable ones? How many do I need? How come they’re so cute?I’m really confused. What’s the difference between hybrids and regular cloth diapers? I’m freaking out a little.
I did find these Fuzzibunz diapers that seem really nice, but how am I supposed to know which one is best? This is driving me a little crazy.
In other news, how cute is this little guy?
Please help! Anyone!
The other day, our bun in the oven got its first “thing”. It’s official, he/she will be here before we know it. I’m kind of excited about this first thing. It seems like it will be a good thing to have. I first read about it here (one of my favorite Mom Blogs) and i thought it sounded like something I should have.
This product is sold in French pharmacies and is widely used to wipe up baby bottoms. Basically, it’s just olive oil and calcium and it cleans and moisturizes simultaneously!
So when my husband had to go to France for business a couple of weeks ago (boo for him, I know.), I took advantage and asked him to buy some of this stuff. It’s supposed to be really great for baby’s skin ( and your skin!). It apparently has lots of other uses too! You can put it on burns, eczema, and use it as a make up remover. Seemed like a no-brainer.
Can’t wait to use it in four months! OMG I can’t believe it’s gonna be that soon. I’m not ready!!!!! Well who is really?
PS. You can purchase the stuff via http://www.leguidesante.com; direct link on pic
This is one of my favorite all time dishes to make. My son absolutely loves it too and requests it (always exciting!).
The name for this in Farsi is Mirza Ghasemi and I’ve been eating it since I could remember. Unlike Baba Ganoush (which I’m sure everyone is familiar with) it doesn’t have tahini or lemon juice. In fact it’s completely different.
Funny when I think about how many dishes made in Iran have egg as their protein base. This particular dish comes from the Northern part of the country, on the coast of the Caspian. It’s very near where my father grew up as a child. Maybe that’s why we had it a lot. Continue reading
So I had this terrible experience in France where my hair iron exploded when I plugged it in the outlet a few months ago. Ever since then I have been without my go-to hair tool and I’ve been putting off buying a new one. After a numerous amount of bad hair days,I finally had to break down and buy another one. I found an Ulta store (which are great by the way!!) and took a look at their selection. I found this Remington hair iron which was quite affordable and had gotten some sort of award, so I said the hell with it, and bought it.
Turns out this iron is freakin awesome! It heats up in 60 seconds and even dings when it’s ready! It also has a digital thermometer where you can actually see the numbers! Miracle right?
It works just as well as the CHI ever did and it gets the job done. And, I saved more than $50! Score!
Just thought I would share :]
This issue has always kind of been in the back of my mind and I finally had enough brain power to remember to google it. I’ve been noticing so many women having trouble conceiving or having multiples which is sometimes due to IVF and infertility drugs. (Remember Apu?)
So it seems like the more I talked to Moms on the playground, the more this issue of infertility would come up. I for one have never had a problem getting pregnant, (eh hem), so I was wondering what the deal was. Continue reading
This Goodbyn lunchbox is the coolest thing ever. You have no need to use any plastic bags, paper bags, boxed drinks, and it’s dishwasher safe!!
When I told my son there were stickers involved, there was no turning back. This will be his new lunchbox for 2nd Grade. Let’s see if it will last the whole year. I have yet to find one that I can use for two years straight.
Oh! And you can buy more stickers! How great is that?
They also have a smaller Bynto box with only three compartments. Perfect for the little guys!
You can buy these super cute cotton napkins which fit right into the boxes too!
What will they think of next??
